Here at Lockaway Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our renters is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with team member Christi Ornelas, who is celebrating her 2-year anniversary with Lockaway Storage.
Christi is the Professional Storage Manager at Lockaway Storage on New Boston Road in Texarkana, TX.
Peter: Hey, Christi! What year anniversary are you celebrating?
Christi: This is two years with Lockaway. Well, I’ve actually been here since 2014 at this location.
Peter: And you were with the company before Lockaway acquired the facility, right?
Christi: I was.
Peter: Nice. So basically four years in self storage. I think that makes just about anybody a pro, once you’ve been in something for four years. Was it what you thought it would be like when you first got into it?
Christi: Not exactly. It’s a lot better than I thought it would be. There’s a lot of structure with this company, and it’s good for me. That helps out a lot, just to have a good structure and a good company to work for.
Peter: Yeah, it seems like you guys have a good group of people down there in Texarkana.
Christi: Oh yeah, really good.
Peter: So you’ve been in Texarkana for a while now, do you have any advice for anybody moving to the area? Things they should know about? Sights they should see?
Christi: Texarkana is definitely growing. I think slowly but surely jobs are getting better for people and there are a lot of people who come here just to basically retire. You know they have their kids here and they want to be with the grandkids. Of course, there are plenty of places to eat. I mean you can always check out the downtown area.
Peter: You mentioned restaurants just then, do you have a couple favorites that you like to go out to?
Christi: Oh yeah, TaMolly’s has always been my favorite. I go there on a regular basis. Texas Roadhouse is a good one and so is McCallister’s.
Peter: TaMolly’s, is that a local place?
Christi: Yeah, it is!
Peter: Do you have a favorite dish you get when you’re there?
Christi: I get fajitas quite a bit, but it’s all good.
“Christi has grown the business at Lockaway Nash, and truly “runs it like she owns it”. Christi is helpful and professional with both the team and her customers. She is a very valuable part of “Team Texarkana”. I am proud to work with her.”
Ann Westerman, Lockaway Storage District Manager
Peter: As far as self storage goes, do you feel like you’ve reached any professional milestones that you want people to know about?
Christi: I guess I have. Just as far as the facility growing, like compared to last year, I’m up to 95% occupancy. So that’s really good. This is the first year that I’ve been at 95% since I’ve been here. That’s really good for me, meeting all of our monthly goals.
Peter: What do you attribute getting up to 95% to?
Christi: I think for me it’s just the way that you treat the customers. Because customer service is totally dead these days. I think it’s really customer service and how you treat them and if they feel welcome or not. They’ll want to stay here compared to other places that don’t act concerned or ask questions. I think that is a big thing for me for this location.
Peter: That’s a great answer. Thanks for sharing. Let’s get away from storage now, you’re not always at the office. Have you developed any hobbies or things you like to do when you’re not at work?
Christi: Not really, of course I work out when I can. I spend a lot of time with my family. I don’t have any hobbies or anything like that. I was in Dallas over the weekend hanging out with my sisters, but I don’t have any hobbies. I’m a little on the lazy side when it comes to that.
Peter: No worries, me too! Are you a Netflix or Hulu kind of person?
Christi: Oh yeah I like Hulu, I have Netflix, I have both of those.
Peter: Do you have recommendations for anything people should watch?
Christi: My favorites are Chicago Med, Chicago Fire; I like those. You know like Grey’s Anatomy, and of course Law and Order, which is one of my other favorites.
Peter: Well that was just about all the questions that I have here. The last one that I always like to ask, is there anyone on the team that you feel deserves a shout out?
Christi: Um, probably everyone! Especially Ann Westerman, because she’s a really good boss. She makes us feel really comfortable. She’s not micromanaging us and lets us go with the flow. She’s really sweet. She’s just a good, good boss.
