Michael Ned and the Taft High School BBQ team win First place in Burnet, TX

Michael Ned of the Steel Smokin’ BBQ team has been cooking his whole life. He considers it his hobby and passion.

Having stored with at the same location for the last 11 years, Michael has been a customer since before Lockaway Storage took over his location. All the while he has stored his custom made 16ft smoker.

It wasn’t until recently that Michael made the transition from cooking for fun to cooking commercially. He has seen a great deal of success in the Texas BBQ circuit. Recently he cooked a BBQ lunch for retired air force pilots at Randolph Air Force Base.

The Taft High BBQ team

The Taft High School BBQ team won first place at a statewide tournament in Burnet, TX.

His latest project is that of mentor to the Taft High School culinary arts BBQ team. The team consists of 8 students from Taft High. Last April, the team won first place at a statewide high school BBQ competition in Burnet, TX. Michael emphasizes teaching the students about the differences between grilling and offset smoking.

This weekend, Michael and the Taft High School BBQ Team will be at Lockaway Storage – Culebra for our Stuff The UNIT event. This event is a food drive in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank and will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Non-perishable food donations are encouraged.
